Building Department

The Clarke County Building Department enforces the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all residents in areas related to the design, construction, and use of buildings, structures, pools, etc.

The department reviews and approves work that requires permits throughout Clarke County, including incorporated towns. The department inspects projects during construction and issues final approval before occupancy or use.

Allow up to 10 business days for all plans review and permit processing.

A minimum 24-hour notice is required for inspection requests. When scheduling an inspection, by phone or fax voicemail or sending via fax, include permit number, property owner’s name, job site address, type of inspection, desired date for inspection, and daytime phone number.
