Animal Shelter

The Clarke County Animal Shelter is jointly owned and managed by Clarke County and the Clarke County Humane Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation and an American Humane member.

Adoption fee for cats and dogs is $25, payable by check or money order. Mature animals must be altered before leaving the shelter. Animals too young to be altered at time of adoption must be taken by the new owner to a participating veterinarian within 30 days of the animal reaching 6-months old. Animals old enough to be altered, but are not eligible for subsidy, must be altered within 30 days of adoption date.

The Clarke County Humane Foundation often covers the cost of spaying and neutering animals adopted by Clarke County residents. It provides a subsidy program for residents of Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, and Warren counties. Send financial contributions (payable to Clarke County Humane Foundation) to: Clarke County Humane Foundation, P.O. Box 713, Berryville, VA 22611.
