CLARKE COUNTY, VA. — The Clarke County Board of Supervisors today announced that the county has retained Torridon Law, with former Virginia Attorney General Richard Cullen leading the firm’s work, to support Clarke County’s efforts to prevent the proposed Valley North transmission line from being routed through the county.

“Clarke County has spent generations protecting its farmland, water, historic landscape and rural character,” said David Weiss, chair of the Clarke County Board of Supervisors. “With the hiring of Richard Cullen and Torridon Law, we are confident that we can present Dominion and its partners with all the critical facts and make a strong case for keeping the Valley North transmission line out of Clarke County.”

“Our residents deserve a voice in this process and a thorough review of how the proposed transmission line could affect their land, water and communities,” said Terri T. Catlett, vice chair of the Clarke County Board of Supervisors. “We look forward to presenting Clarke County’s case and ensuring those concerns receive the serious consideration they deserve.”

Clarke County has consistently and formally opposed the construction of the Valley North project within its borders. The Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted two resolutions opposing any proposed route through the county and has continued working to ensure that the county’s concerns are fully represented throughout the planning and regulatory process.

Cullen brings more than four decades of legal and public-service experience, including serving as Virginia attorney general, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and counselor and chief legal adviser to Governor Glenn Youngkin. Torridon Law’s team also includes former U.S. Attorney General William Barr, former White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,  Mark Christie former chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and former Chairman of the Virginia State Corporation Commission (Virginia SCC) and former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.
