BERRYVILLE, VA (Feb. 19, 2021)  A high-impact winter weather event moved through the Shenandoah Valley in the pre-dawn hours and into the day Thursday, Feb. 18, dumping up to 5 inches of snow and sleet. The main portion of the storm left the area midday, but light amounts of rain and freezing rain continued overnight. The National Weather Service reports hazardous weather conditions, and motorists should remain alert for slick conditions. Assume anything that appears wet is ice.

Town of Berryville, Town of Boyce, and Clarke County government offices open at regular time today.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, the following are CLOSED:

• Clarke County Public Schools; asynchronous virtual day for all students with no online instruction
• General District Court (104 N. Church St.)
• Parks & Recreation Child Care Program at D.G. Cooley upper campus (34 Westwood Rd.)
• Virginia Regional Transit on-demand, curb-to-curb bus service
• SAAA Clarke County Senior Center (225 Al Smith Circle)

As of 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, the following will DELAY OPENING:

• Circuit Court (102 N. Church St.) opens at 10 a.m.
• Clarke County Library (101 Chalmers Ct.) opens at noon
• Clarke County Public Schools Administration Office opens at 10 a.m.
• Department of Social Services (311 E. Main St.) opens at 10 a.m.
• Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court (104 N. Church St.) opens at 10 a.m.

Trash and recycling will be collected Saturday, Feb. 20, for Berryville residents whose trash is usually collected on Thursdays. Refuse and recycling collection schedule remains unchanged on Feb. 19 for residents whose regular collection date is Friday. Find more information on the Town website: berryvilleva.gov.

The FISH of Clarke County food distribution originally scheduled for Feb. 19 at Duncan Memorial UMC (210 E. Main St., Berryville) has been moved to Friday, Feb. 26.
