The Communications Division of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office handles public Safety Communications for Clarke County. The Communications Center is the 911 public safety answering point for Clarke County, handling all emergency phone calls; and non-emergency calls for the Sheriff’s Office. The Communications Center dispatches all emergency and non-emergency calls for service for all law enforcement, fire & rescue and emergency services agencies in our jurisdiction. It is comprised of one Director, one Assistant Director, and nine Communications Specialists. The Communications Center is staffed with a minimum of two Communications Specialists 24 hours a day.

Our Communications Specialists are certified through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as Communications Operators. In addition to this basic training, they also receive certifications in the operation of the Virginia Criminal Information Network, CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatching. Several of our staff have advanced to the level of Certified Training Officer and hold instructor certificates from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. We have two of our instructors with specialties, one in the Virginia Criminal Information Network and the other in Emergency Medical Dispatching.
