Conservation Easement Authority

Purpose:         

To protect and preserve land with significant agricultural, natural, scenic, and historic resources, specifically including:
  1. quality farmland;
  2. land providing open-space and rural character;
  3. environmentally sensitive areas important to water quality, plant life, and wildlife;
  4. historic resources;
  5. natural and scenic resources;
  6. land that promotes tourism; and
  7. water resources.
To achieve these purposes the Authority:
  1. Can acquire and/or receive conservation easements, by purchase, gift, or other conveyance;
  2. Can hold and enforce conservation easements conveyed to it;
  3. Administer the Clarke County Conservation Easement Purchase Program pursuant to Chapter 72 of the Clarke County Code; and to exercise any powers authorized by the Public Recreational Facilities Authorities Act.
Membership:   

The seven members are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and are comprised of:
  • one member from the Board of Supervisors, (with a one year term,
  • one member from the Planning Commission, (with a one year term) and
  • five County citizens (with three year terms)
Meeting Information:            

Meets every third Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room
