Clarke County, Virginia - Voter Information
The constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Registration is closed during the 21 days before a primary or general election. Please see the Elections Calendar for registration deadlines.
Virginia law requires every voter voting in person to show identification (24.2-643). Acceptable forms identification include:
- Virginia voter registration card;
- Social security card;
- Valid Virginia driver's license;
- Concealed handgun permit;
- Identification card issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States;
- Valid student identification card issued by any institution of higher education located in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
- Valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter and issued by an employer of the voter in the ordinary course of the employer's business;
- Current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck that shows the name and address of the voter.
Voters without acceptable ID will be required to vote a provisional ballot and submit a copy of an approved form of ID to the local Electoral Board by noon on Friday following Election Day in order for the ballot to be counted.
