The constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Registration is closed during the 29 days before an election.  Please see the Elections Calendar for registration deadlines.

Virginia law requires every voter voting in person to show identification or sign a statement, subject to felony penalties for false statements pursuant to §24.2-1016 of the Code of Virginia, that the person is the named registered voter.  Other ID requirements apply when voting in a Federal Election.

Acceptable identification includes your Virginia voter registration card, social security card, valid Virginia driver's license, or any other identification card issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States; or any valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter.

To be eligible to vote in the November 4, 2008 General Election, you must be registered to vote no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 6th, 2008.

Absentee voting begins on September 22ndOctober 28th
is the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail;  November 1st is the last day to vote in-person by absentee ballot.  The Voter Registration Office will be open Saturday, October 25th  and November 1st from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for the convenience of registered voters who need to vote by absentee ballot for this election.  The absentee ballot request form is located under the forms link on this page.
